Sleep Dentistry

Sleep Dentistry Mornington

Do something for your overall health and get a better sleep

At our practice, our focus is on providing a calm, positive and relaxed atmosphere for our patients. We want to avoid the things that can discourage patients from visiting the dentist and receiving the treatments that they need for their dental health and also their overall health.

However, we do understand that, for some patients, visits to the dentist can cause a great deal of stress. This is why we offer Sleep Dentistry as an option to help make things a little easier.

What is Sleep Dentistry?

At our practice, the sleep dentistry option that we offer is General Anaesthesia. You can choose to sleep through your dental procedure at a private hospital using the latest in specialised technology and highly qualified staff.

You will typically be admitted as a day patient and able to go home within a couple of hours of your procedure.

3 reasons why you may want to consider sleep dentistry

  1. Stress-free – as you sleep through your procedure, you don’t have to experience anything that is taking place.
  2. Comfortable – lie back and relax, with none of the discomfort that may otherwise be associated with a long and complex procedure.
  3. In safe hands – our dentists and the hospital anaesthetists are highly trained and experienced and have all the latest technology to hand.

Is Sleep Dentistry an option for me?

Both adults and children can have dental procedures performed under general anaesthetic. We’ll make sure you are medically fit for anaesthesia with a consultation with an anaesthetist.

Most procedures can be carried out in this way, including

  • Wisdom teeth removal
  • Implants
  • Scaling/Cleaning teeth
  • Multiple extractions
  • Fillings

We will give you an estimate of cost at the time of consultation and you should consult your private health insurer regarding the rebate you will be entitled to.

General Anaesthesia at Mornington Peninsula Dental Clinic

Our clinic has over 40 years’ experience with dental treatment under general anaesthesia. Most treatments may be undertaken whilst patients are asleep. Usually our patients are treated in a private day surgery facility in Ringwood, as a day procedure and return home shortly after surgery. Patients that feel embarrassed by their choice of this form of dentistry should be encouraged by the knowledge that each year our surgery treats more and more patients this way. The anaesthetics are administered by very experienced anaesthetists working locally in the area.
